Life Stories

Nov 9th, 2009 | by Bridget Cook

Everyone has an incredible story... we just haven't all discovered them yet.  However, when we do, they are something that drives us, compels and inspires us to BE all of who we are.  It's an amazing transformation that most of us come to at some point of choice in our lives.  Sometimes this comes in a moment of soft introspection.  However, for others it is a result of realizing that "Enough is enough is enough!" and we choose to step out of whatever drama we previously created (or may have been created for us) and to decide to live another way.

These are the stories of dynamic change that you have brought to me in the last two months.  I have been inspired by more than 47 people who have written, called and amazed me with your stories. Most of you  that contacted me have survived horrendous ordeals, and finally thrived when you decided to take life literally by the horns and begin to live from a different space than you ever have before. Now that is transformation.  That is what I know is possible.  That is what inspires me... and I feel is beginning to inspire an entire nation. We are getting tired of the blackness that seems to permeate society.  We are done with the crime, with the hopelessness we feel when we watch the news.  We are ready to take life on --whatever demons we must face within ourselves and within society to be able to finally live!

People who have read Shattered Silence and Skinhead Confessions realize the style of writing that I do is about these transformational stories.  It's not about the salacious details of true crime, or victimizing more people.  Far be it.  This is about revealing truth of human conditions, and realizing that we are divine and as such are given tools and resources and incredible spirits to be able to rise ABOVE the drama, the abuse, and the old stories to create a new one--our own rebirth into a new life of accountability and contribution.  To me it goes even deeper.  Like Melissa and TJ, to be able to Create a Life On Purpose, one of joy, of healing, of light... and yes, even of peace.

So, I thank you for having the courage to share your stories with me.  Thank you for having the courage to speak your truth.  Thank you for having the courage to change, and be an amazing ripple into your families, your neighborhoods, your communities and your nations.  Around the world, you ARE making a difference.  And I'm overjoyed to hear from you everyday, in honor and gratitude.  Keep it coming!

Crazy Wonderful

Oct 13th, 2009 | by Bridget Cook

At some point in the last few months as people have asked how I am doing or what I'm up to, I've decided to quit saying 'busy' as part of my replies.  Busy as in "too busy' or even "crazy busy" just doesn't account for -- nor give thanks for -- the miracles that are happening right and left.  (I'd like to respond, "Fanfreakingtastic!" but since I had an absurd aversion to the word 'freaking' for so long, my daughters wouldn't let me live that one down.  That's a whole 'nother story...)

"Crazy-wonderful"  however, seems to succinctly put it all into perspective.  Wonderful, as in 'filled with wonder' is definitely in the miraculous category, and crazy added would definitely sum it all up!  Melissa Moore, myself, and our book, Shattered Silence, the Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter have been on an incredible journey.  Released September 8, the book has had a whirlwind tour, beginning with Oprah (and special appearance by Dr. Phil), a four-page article in People Magazine, and another interview with Melissa is supposed to air this coming Friday on Good Morning America!  In addition to numerous columns, reviews and newspaper articles, this is nothing short of crazy-wonderful, and every day I wake up in total gratitude.

Melissa's courage has sparked incredible  response from readers and viewers from across the nation, Canada, and the world.  People are writing to Melissa every day, thanking her for telling her story.  Some people's personal journeys, like Melissa's, are heart-wrenching. What brings tears to my eyes is hearing how they are able to move forward because of the message Shattered Silence brings them.  We've now even had therapists tell us that their clients are referring them to read the book! Crazy. Wonderful.  Crazy-wonderful.  Amen.
